The Future of Healthcare: AI-Powered, Coordinated and Proactive Care
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 19, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AINewsWire Editorial Coverage: American healthcare is moving from treating illness after it strikes to preventing it before it starts. U.S. health spending reached $5.3 trillion in 2024, and Medicare Advantage now covers 35.2 million people, or 55% of eligible beneficiaries. KFF projects Medicare Advantage payments of $574 billion in 2026, giving health plans a powerful reason to keep members healthy. That shift is opening the door for a new kind of player. ECGI Holdings Inc. (OTC: ECGI) (profile) has completed its acquisition of Avanta Group, a developing platform that spans a Medicare Advantage health plan, management services and AI-enabled health technology. The acquisition gives ECGI a direct path into coordinated, proactive care just as the industry is searching for better ways to deliver it. ECGI is working alongside others operating in the U.S. managed healthcare ecosystem, including industry leaders such as United Health Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH), CVS Health Corporation (NYSE: CVS), Elevance Health Inc. (NYSE: ELV) and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM).
- Chronic disease sits at the center of America's healthcare challenge, with three in four American adults having at least one chronic condition and more than one-half living with two or more.
- AI has moved quickly from pilot projects into everyday practice, with a recent AMA survey reporting that 81% of physicians now use AI in their practices.
- ECGI's proposed healthcare approach is aimed squarely at the growing multitrillion-dollar national health spending segment, with Avanta Health Plan at the center of that strategy.
- In much of healthcare, the pieces that shape a patient's experience operate separately, but through Avanta, ECGI intends to create a connected insurance, administration, technology, member engagement and delivery infrastructure.

The future of healthcare will belong to organizations that connect the dots for patients, and ECGI Holdings is moving to claim its place in that sector.
Why Proactive, Connected Care Is Gaining Ground
Chronic disease sits at the center of America's healthcare challenge. According to the CDC, conditions such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are leading drivers of the nation's health costs. Three in four American adults have at least one chronic condition. More than half live with two or more.
The burden is heaviest among older adults. The CDC reports that more than 90% of adults aged 65 and older have at least one chronic condition. Many of these patients see several clinicians and need steady follow-up between visits. When that follow-up slips, small problems can turn into hospital stays.
Preventive care remains underused, even when it costs patients nothing. Medicare's Annual Wellness Visit has no copay or deductible after the first year of enrollment. Yet an actuarial analysis found that 45% of fee-for-service beneficiaries had one or no wellness visits from 2018 to 2023. Years with a visit were associated with about $885 less in total cost of care per beneficiary.
Closing these gaps requires providers, health plans and care teams to work from the same playbook. ECGI Holdings is positioning itself for this connected model. Its acquisition of Avanta Group brings a developing health plan, a management-services organization and a health-technology business together on one platform.
“Healthcare is one of the largest and most consequential sectors of the U.S. economy,” said ECGI Holdings president Jamie Steigerwald. “Our objective is not simply to participate in that market, but to build an integrated platform capable of using automation and artificial intelligence to improve navigation, identify opportunities for earlier intervention, streamline administrative workflows and support more informed decision-making.”
How AI Helps Care Teams Close Gaps
Artificial intelligence has moved quickly from pilot projects into everyday practice. The American Medical Association's (“AMA”) 2026 physician survey found that 81% of physicians now use AI in their practices. That is more than double the 38% reported in 2023.
For care teams, AI's most practical role is organizing information that is scattered across systems. Claims, visit notes, lab results and pharmacy records rarely live in one place. AI-enabled tools can pull these sources together, flag overdue screenings and highlight missed follow-ups. They can also rank which patients need outreach first, so limited staff time goes where it matters most.
The technology works best as support, not as a substitute for clinical judgment. In the AMA survey, 88% of physicians said robust safety and efficacy validation is critical for broader adoption. Another 85% said they want to be consulted or directly involved in decisions about AI. Seventy percent see AI as a way to automate tasks that contribute to burnout, which frees clinicians to focus on patients.
ECGI plans to bring these capabilities into its healthcare platform with Avanta Tech supporting data, automation and AI-enabled functions. ECGI has identified potential applications including care-gap identification, member-service automation, provider and network analytics, claims and workflow support, fraud detection and personalized health navigation.
A $5.3 Trillion Market Primed for Change
Few industries match the scale of U.S. healthcare. Research shows that national health spending grew 7.2% to $5.3 trillion in 2024, equaling $15,474 per person and 18% of gross domestic product. Medicare alone accounted for $1.118 trillion, or 21% of the total.
The market is also expected to keep expanding faster than the broader economy. CMS projects average health spending growth of 5.4% per year from 2025 to 2034, compared with 4.1% for GDP. As a result, healthcare's share of GDP is projected to reach 20.6% by 2034. Medicare spending is expected to grow fastest of all major payers, at 7.7% per year.
The dollars flowing through these plans are substantial. KFF estimates that Medicare Advantage payments will total $574 billion in 2026. Quality bonuses alone are expected to reach at least $13.4 billion, more than four times the $3 billion paid in 2015. Those bonuses show how directly plan performance is tied to revenue.
ECGI's proposed healthcare strategy is aimed squarely at this segment. At its center is Avanta Health Plan, a developing Medicare Advantage, commercial and individual health plan. According to the ECGI announcement, plans call for Avanta to acquire applicable approvals and licenses, including from the California Department of Managed Health Care and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, before it may operate or enroll members. Once those approvals are in place, growth would depend on enrollment, service expansion and disciplined management of medical and administrative costs.
Integrated Services Turn Coordination into Daily Practice
In much of healthcare, the pieces that shape a patient's experience operate separately. Health plans manage benefits and claims. Clinics manage appointments and treatment. Administrative teams handle billing, referrals and authorizations, often on their own systems. Each handoff is a chance for a patient to fall through the cracks.
Those gaps carry real financial consequences for health plans. Medicare Advantage star ratings drive quality bonus eligibility, and the bar is getting harder to clear. Studies report that the number of contracts rated four stars or higher fell to 209 in 2026, down from 261 a year earlier. The share of enrollees in bonus-eligible plans dropped to 68%, its lowest point since 2018.
Integrated models aim to align administrative processes with what patients actually need. A management-services organization (“MSO”) can handle operational work for clinics so clinicians can focus on care. When that MSO shares data and goals with a health plan, administrative tasks can support continuity of care rather than slow it down. Technology then becomes the connective tissue, carrying information from the plan to the clinic and back.
This is the structure ECGI is proposing to build through Avanta. Avanta MSO is intended to support administration and operations within Avanta's medical network. According to ECGI, it will put Avanta Tech and Avanta Health Plan innovations to work at the clinical level. The platform will also include Avanta Mart, a consumer-health and wellness channel for member engagement, and Avanta Properties City Parkway, a real-estate entity for healthcare infrastructure.
“The Avanta platform is designed to connect the core functions that increasingly shape healthcare performance: insurance, administration, technology, member engagement and the infrastructure required to support delivery,” said Steigerwald. “We believe that combination can give ECGI a scalable foundation for growth while keeping the member experience and responsible use of data at the center of the strategy.”
The Avanta Agreement Marks a Healthcare Turning Point
This week, ECGI closed on the 100% acquisition of Avanta Group and its subsidiaries. ECGI issued 17,160,000 shares of Series A Voting Convertible Preferred Stock in exchange for all outstanding Avanta shares. Of those shares, 10,296,000 (60%) vested at closing, with the remaining 6,864,000 (40%) subject to transfer restrictions and performance-based vesting.
Avanta brings an operating team with Medicare Advantage experience. Its founders are healthcare operations executives who have built other Medicare Advantage plans and medical clinics. The team also understands the health-benefit needs of diverse ethnic groups.
Several steps remain before the platform takes shape. Avanta has submitted a letter of intent to apply to the California Department of Managed Health Care but has not yet filed its formal license application. It also intends to submit a notice of intent to apply to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services later in October 2026; a formal CMS application has not been submitted. In addition, ECGI has been preparing its balance sheet for this next phase; earlier this month, the company eliminated a $2.556 million convertible obligation, a move that advances ECGI's goal of removing derivative liabilities and reducing potentially dilutive debt.
The future of healthcare will belong to organizations that connect the dots for patients, and ECGI Holdings is moving to claim its place. With $5.3 trillion in annual U.S. health spending and 35.2 million Medicare Advantage enrollees, the reward for coordinated, proactive care is enormous. ECGI’s proposed Avanta platform stands apart through integration, combining a health plan, management services, AI-enabled technology, consumer health and real estate under one roof.
Healthcare Leaders Drive Innovation and Better Care
The healthcare industry continues to evolve as leading organizations introduce new initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes, expand access to essential services and address rising costs. From enhanced insurance benefits and more coordinated care to digital innovation and improved quality measures, recent developments reflect a growing emphasis on affordability, accessibility and personalized health care.
UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE: UNH) has introduced its 2027 Medicare Advantage plans. The plans are designed to bring affordability, simplicity and a more connected care experience to a growing and increasingly diverse population of beneficiaries. UNH’s Medicare portfolio continues to focus on delivering the benefits members value most while advancing new ways to make healthcare more accessible, personalized and easier to use.
CVS Health Corporation’s (NYSE: CVS) Aetna(R) has announced its 2027 Medicare products. The products include choices designed to support older adults with a wide range of health needs, providing reliable benefits that enable affordability and access to quality care. The company is expanding the availability of our Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans, growing our High Value Provider Incentive Program, and continuing to focus on care navigation and support.
Elevance Health Inc. (NYSE: ELV) announced that its affiliated health plans will offer 2027 Medicare Advantage plans designed to help members navigate healthcare more confidently. The company noted that many members want to understand their benefits, connect to care, manage healthcare costs and know where to turn for support throughout the year. Elevance Health-affiliated plans are designed with that experience in mind, combining local healthcare relationships with benefits and services that support members’ health and well-being across their healthcare journey.
Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has entered into a new joint venture agreement with funds and accounts managed by HPS Investment Partners, a part of BlackRock, to manage and operate an existing network of nearly 150 CenterWell Senior Primary Care clinics that currently sit within joint ventures owned by funds affiliated with WCAS and CenterWell. The new joint venture will replace the current CenterWell and WCAS joint ventures that were instrumental in successfully scaling CenterWell into the nation’s largest provider of senior-focused value-based primary care over the last seven years.
As healthcare organizations respond to changing market dynamics, investments in innovation, expanded benefits and coordinated care are helping shape the future of the industry. Efforts to simplify healthcare navigation, improve quality measures and strengthen patient engagement reflect a broader commitment to delivering more accessible and effective services. These initiatives demonstrate how established healthcare companies are pursuing new approaches to improving health outcomes and creating a more responsive, patient-centric healthcare system.
