Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Attends the Opening Ceremony of the Technical Training Program on Fisheries and the Blue Economy

On September 21, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Kong Xianhua attended the Opening Ceremony of the Technical Training program on Fisheries and the blue Economy. Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, H.E. Ahmed Shiyam attended and delivered remarks. Counselor Zhang Xu of the Chinese Embassy and Luo Jian, Deputy Dean of the College of Marine Biology and Fisheries at Hainan University, were also present.

The training program was organized by Hainan University and attended by over 50 participants from the Maldives, representing the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, the Marine Research Institute, the Maldives National University, and other relevant institutions.

Ambassador Kong stated that this training program offers an excellent opportunity for both sides to enhance exchanges and share experiences; China will continue to leverage its strengths in technology and personnel training to support the Maldives in building fisheries capacity and advancing its blue economy.

Minister Shiyam expressed gratitude for China’s long-standing support for the development of the Maldives' fisheries sector and blue economy, noting that the training would strengthen bilateral exchange and cooperation in areas such as sustainable fisheries resource management, marine biodiversity conservation, aquaculture, and coral reef restoration.
